Maria Montessori called this the “Absorbent Mind Stage”. During this developmental phase, children are conscious of their thoughts and are aware that they are learning. During this stage, the child is learning to do things independently and should be encouraged to do so. The child's biggest learning tool is through experience; they try many different skills until they get it right.
